Acne Prescription Treatments Aren’t All Safe

If you are thinking about acne prescription treatments to take care of your acne there is something you should know.  Some of the medications prescribed for acne, particularly the ones that work the best, can have some very serious side effects.

Isotretinoin is an oral retinoid that is used to treat severe acne and acne cysts.  This drug is very potent and can have very harmful effects for women of child bearing years.  In fact, Isotretinoin cannot be prescribed to women who are pregnant, nursing, or thinking of becoming pregnant within several months after the treatment has ended.  The FDA has made it mandatory that before any woman who can possibly become pregnant submit to a series of tests before the medication can be prescribed.  I think I’ll ask my doctor if there’s anything else.
