Anyone Know A Good Place To Get Credit Scores?

There are a lot of sites selling credit scoring services out there. It is not really surprising either; we are a nation in debt “up to our eyeballs.” So can somebody help me? I do not want to get ripped off and I am not sure of which credit scoring site to trust. Wikipedia mentions a couple, but sometimes the articles there are edited by companies trying to sell you something. I know that you can try a credit score simulator and get a free credit report annually according to some law, but I’m not sure what the law is called. I would really like some info on this before I try to get financing to buy a new car.
