01 October 2008

Finding out that you cannot expect to conceive without medical intervention can be devastating to a couple hoping to have a family. Once this has time to sink in, most ask about infertility treatments that can help them do what nature seems to be resisting. There are many different treatments that doctors can recommend, and these usually go from the easiest and cheapest and then works up to the most expensive and somewhat invasive procedures. Prenatal Vitamins Are An Important Part Of Prenatal Care

19 February 2008

At the first prenatal visit, prenatal vitamins should be prescribed if the woman has not already started taking them. There are many different vitamins available and the health care provider can recommend which prenatal vitamins are appropriate. Side effects such as nausea are common, and can be alleviated by taking with food, and not on an empty stomach. If the vitamin can still not be tolerated, the physician can prescribe another in its place. It is an important part of prenatal care a woman should adhere to on a consistent basis, an easy step to help prevent nutritional deficiencies and neural tube defects, such as spina bifida and anencephaly.

The Second Trimester

20 December 2007

The second trimester might just be the easiest part of being pregnant. This is when most are confident that the pregnancy is viable, and most sickness and fatigue from hormones begins to even off and even go away. This is when spending time with a woman who is expecting can be a lot of fun. It is also time to learn and participate in exercise with being pregnant. The more exercise a woman can get, the easier her labor may be when she gives birth.

Sex Selection anyone?

10 November 2007

In the past, there was not much you could do about it. Pre-natal sex selectionwas impossible. Older Chinese (and other) societies would practice a repugnant form of sex selection by killing unwanted babies by exposing them or otherwise, and this was the fate of many baby girls. Fortunately, infanticide is illegal, so this form of Chinese sex selection is no longer practised.

With modern ultrasound scans, however, pre-natal sex selection is possible. And as abortion is available pretty much on demand in Chinese society as a result of the “one child” policy, you can guess what the results are.
