Features of Excavators

The modern excavator will typically have the following features: an articulated mechanical arm with a bucket, a platform swivels 360 degrees that allows the mechanical arm to be more useful in any position an excavator is in, a cab for the operator or crew members, and an undercarriage with wheels or tracks. Excavators were developed from the steam shovel, a machine with more limited utility used in the 19th century and early 20th century. They come in a mind-boggling variety of configurations and can be made to perform a wide variety of different tasks aside from just digging holes or trenches.
